Over the years Tanya Ury has compiled several lists of partners, the sexual, the platonic, of abusive relationships, of those desired, those fantasised or dreamed about. Although the opportunity arose to present work on these themes after 2001 in the Galerie 68 Elf, Cologne, Ury was concerned about the self-indulgent nature of the subject and let it go.
The situation in the New Life Shop Art Gallery, Berlin with Laurel Jay Carpenter offered itself again as an opportunity to revisit an undeveloped concept and a collaborative work ensued. Within the Avant-Garde Dating framework the idea of sparring partners in a speed-dating situation was developed; each gave the other their list of partners. One chose from the others list and she then had exactly 5 minutes to relate a kiss and tell story. Then it was the others turn.
At the end of an hour the game was complete. It emerged that in some cases 5 minutes was not enough time to get to the point, in others the raconteur was left speechless for minutes.
